Saad Rafiq plans to challenge constituency boundaries

F.P. Report

LAHORE: Khawaja Saad Rafiq, a prominent leader of the Muslim League-N, has declared his intention to challenge the constituency boundaries in his area. In a statement on Wednesday posted on the social media platform X, he asserted that during the 2018 elections, the rural areas under the influence of PML-N and the president were unjustly removed from his constituency to favor Imran Khan.

He further claimed that this time, his constituency has been artificially divided, with the Walton Kent Board being split into four National Assembly constituencies.

The former federal minister expressed dissatisfaction, stating that their compelling arguments and factual evidence were not considered, and the Election Commission erroneously dismissed their objections. In response, he declared his intention to appeal in the High Court and contest the constituencies designated by the Election Commission of Pakistan.

In a related development, Atta Tarar, another leader of the Muslim League-N, has also challenged the delimitation of NA 123 Gakhar Mandi in the Lahore High Court. Justice Ali Baqir Najafi has summoned the Election Commission and other relevant parties to respond on December 8. Azam Nazir Tarar, representing Atta Tarar, argued during the hearing that the population manipulation in one constituency has resulted in an unjust decrease in another.

He contended that constituencies cannot be altered arbitrarily according to the law, and therefore, the court should declare the constituencies established on an unfair basis null and void. (INP)
