Salang and other highways closed after heavy snowfall

KABUL (TOLOnews): With continued snowfall in many parts of the country, the Salang highway and some other highways in the provinces of Herat, Badghis, Ghor, Bamyan, Ghazni, and Daikundi have been blocked for traffic.
Many roads in the districts of the mentioned provinces are also closed for traffic.
Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, a spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works, said efforts are underway to reopen these highways and district roads.
“The Salang highway and several other routes in the provinces of Bamyan, Ghazni, Ghor, Daikundi, Farah, and Badghis are still blocked for traffic due to heavy snowfall,” he added.
Meanwhile, all highways and district roads in Badghis province are closed for traffic due to heavy snowfall. Traffic on the Herat-Torghundi highway has also been disrupted.
“All transportation routes in Badghis are closed today,” said Sadiqullah Sadiqi, a spokesman for the Badghis security command.
In some northern provinces of the country, more district roads have also been closed due to continued snowfall.
“Due to heavy snowfall last night, transportation routes to Qom Kotal district and Balkhab and Albadr districts have been blocked for residents of these districts,” said Habibullah Masroor, spokesman for the Sar-e-Pul governor
“Based on our information, roads to Bandar and Kohestan districts, which are mountainous districts, have been blocked from the center” said Shamsuddin Mohammadi, head of information and culture in Farah province.
Security officials in the western region have also stated that due to snowfall, travel on highways is dangerous. According to them, security forces have rescued dozens of stranded passengers in snow in Herat and Ghor.
“In Kohsan district of Herat province, a number of passengers were stranded on the highway but fortunately were rescued by the rescue team of the 3rd Commando Company of the 5th Border Brigade 207th Zafar Military Corps,” said Ezatullah Saeedi, a spokesman for the 207 Alfarooq. The recent snow is has fallen in many parts of the country.
According to officials, with continued snowfall and rain in the coming days, there is a possibility of highways being blocked and the risk of flooding.
