Monitoring Desk

KABUL: The Ministry of Public Works confirms that the Salang Pass is now open to traffic after being closed for several days due to heavy snowfall which triggered many avalanches.

The ministry said the operations to clear the pass have concluded and both directions of the pass are now open to traffic. Officials in the Directorate of Maintenance of Salang Pass had earlier said that the highway was closed due to storms and avalanches since Sunday night. Salang Pass is considered as one of the main highways in the North which links Kabul with nine provinces.

According to reports, the highway witnessed heavy snowfall during the past 5 days and was also hit by more than 40 avalanches. (Khaama Press)
