LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Syed Samsam Ali Bukhari on Tuesday lauded show of unity in the passage of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, which increased the number of National Assembly and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s seats for the erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).
“Political parties’ consensus on the 26th Constitutional Amendment is a welcome [development],” he said in a statement, adding the PTI government fulfilled another promise it had made to the people of the country. The minister slammed the opposition Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz’s (PML-N) “double standards” over creation of south Punjab province saying it adopted one stance inside the assembly while another outside it. He said southern Punjab’s funds were embezzled over the past 10 years by the previous set ups.
Samsam said the PTI-led government is meeting its campaign promises, hoping that the dream of prosperity across the country would come true. It is noteworthy that the National Assembly had on Monday unanimously approved the 26th Amendment to the Constitution, allowing an increase in the number of National Assembly and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s seats for the former Fata. Subsequently, taking the floor of the house, Prime Minister Imran Khan, who attended the session, lauded political parties over reaching consensus over the Amendment.
