SC dismisses petition against expansion of US embassy

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has rejected petition against expansion in  US embassy  declaring it non maintainable. CJP has remarked “This is a matter of diplomatic nature.

A 3-member bench of SC presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar took up the case for hearing Wednesday. During the course of hearing of the case the CJP asked the petitioner to give arguments on maintainability of the petition. The petitioner took the plea that cantonment has been constructed for Americans on 56 acres land. CJP remarked this is matter of diplomatic nature.

The petitioner said that hotel has been built on additional land which is against the law. Land was acquired in the name of providing assistance.

CJP remarked “these matters are not liable to come in the courts. This is a policy matter. The right of the petitioner has not been affected.
