SC hears Rs-54b written-off loans case

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan heard the 54-billions rupees of written-off loans case in Islamabad on Tuesday.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar ordered to close the legal proceedings against twenty-six persons who have deposited seventy-five percent of the actual amount.

The court noted that thirteen other persons have also expressed their consent to deposit seventy-five percent of the actual amount.

The court granted another two month’s period to one hundred and eighty-three remaining loan defaulters to clear their cases under the same package.

The SC also ordered that the unclaimed amount by the Banks, recovered in the case, will go to the Dams funds. Justice Nisar said: “Those who opted for the option of voluntary return are lucky as they were exempted from mark-up and other funds. They were asked to return the actual amount they had borrowed from banks. In fact, they were asked to pay 75 per cent of this amount.”

The Apex Court constituted a new bench to review the matters of those who have not yet deposited the seventy-five percent of their actual amount.
