ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court Tuesday accepted unconditional written apology of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Nehal Hashmi and withdrew the second contempt of court proceedings against him.
A three-member bench led by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard the contempt of court proceedings against Hashmi.
During the course of proceedings, Hashmi said he was ashamed of his behaviour and in future, he would not speak against the judiciary even in his privacy.
The representatives of the bar councils appeared before the court and condemned the act of Hashmi, however, they requested the Supreme Court to pardon him as he had promised not to speak against the judiciary and judicial system any more.
The chief justice remarked that he did not want Hashmi’s family to suffer because of his any bad act and asked him to tender a written apology after which the court would take further action and adjourned the hearing till 1300 hours.
When the case was resumed later, the bar leaders asked the court to show magnanimity.
SCBA President Rasheed A Rizvi informed the court that Hashmi’s licence to practice law had been cancelled for three months by the Sindh bar and pleaded the Supreme Court to show kindness and forgive him.
The court, however, then directed Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Nehal Hashmi to submit a written apology which was later accepted by the court.
