SC wants action against DG NAB Sindh for contempt of lawmakers

KARACHI: Standing Committee of the Sindh Assembly on Thursday expressed its serious displeasure over the non-appearance of Director General of National Accountability Bureau, Sindh, Altaf Bawani, who was summoned for explanation of his controversial remarks against the lawmakers.

According to details, a meeting of the standing committee on privileges and rules and regulations held here at Sindh Assembly. The meeting chaired by Senior Minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro was attended by the committee members, including Syed Sardar Ahmed, Khursheed Ahmed Junejo, Ghulam Qadir Chandio and others.

The Committee declared DG NAB as guilty of not appearing before the Committee and giving statement against the lawmakers on private news channels. The footage of interview of DG NAB Altaf Bawani was run during the meeting.

The committee unanimously found that DG NAB has doubted the intention of lawmakers and has thus committed insult to the Sindh Assembly. “This is why action should be taken against DG NAB under the rules,” chair of the meeting ruled.

Talking to the media, Nisar Khuhro said that notice was served with DG NAB, Sindh in which he was asked to appear before the committee for giving explanation of his remarks. “But he didn’t show up,” Khuhro said, informing the notice had also warned of unilateral action against the National Accountability Bureau’s Sindh Chief in case of his absence.

“We unanimously decided that action should be taken against DG NAB, Sindh under the rule for which a report will be prepared for its presentation in the Sindh Assembly for approval,” he further informed.
