Scientists call for exploring new avenues to develop medical chemistry

Islamabad: Scientists and researchers both from home and abroad at the two-day 3nd Int’ conference on Chemistry held here at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) underlined the need to explore new ideas and avenues to develop medical chemistry.

While appreciating the Allama Iqbal Open University for promoting research-based academic culture in Pakistan, they said cast-affected methods are the need of the hour to deal with the health-related issues in light of new scientific developments.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui while addressing the concluding session assured that the Allama Iqbal Open University will provide maximum incentives to its faculty members to do quality research that meets the socio-economic needs of the society.

The Allama Iqbal Open University has emerged as a leading educational institution in the country in term of research during the last three years providing academic inputs and innovative ideas to the end-users. “We have so far produced 14 research journals, and these number will be reach to 17 by the end of this year, he added.

The University organized twenty-five national and international conferences in a short span of time to share and disseminate the research-based knowledge for the benefit of the society.  They have provided a conducive environment to their youth to broaden their learning horizon.

He announced that a similar event will be arranged next year at a larger scale to help the young researchers  translating their scientific ideas and projects into

practice.

The conference was organized by the University’s department of Chemistry for bringing together researchers and scientists to share the updated their knowledge and new academic developments in the field of chemistry.

The foreign delegates from Austria, Bulgaria, Qatar and some other countries praised the AIOU for its consistent efforts promoting research cultural in the country. They appreciated the Vice Chancellor for providing them an opportunity to interact with their Pakistani friends on recent trends in chemistry.

Dr. Shahid Siddiqui thanked the Higher Education Commission for funding such research-based activities in a big way. This, he added has proved very helpful in encouraging and motivating the researchers to do the best in their relevant fields.

The key-note speakers at the conference were Dr. Bemhard Krautler, University of Innsbruck, Austria, Dr. Nina D. Dimcheva, the University Plovdiv, Bulgaria, Dr. Jiri Brack from Czeck Republic and Dr. Muhammad Mahroof Tahir from Qatar University.

During the two-day working sessions of the conference, the participants deliberated upon topics of Heterocyclic chemistry, medical chemistry, Catalysis, material, computational, polymer and environmental chemistry.

Earlier, Dean Sciences and chairman department chemistry Prof. Dr. Naghmana Rashid said the event was highly successful in sharing latest developments in the field of chemistry. She praised high the Vice Chancellor’s vision and personal interest in promoting  research-based activities and making them beneficial for the society.
