LONDON (Agencies): The Scottish Tories’ leadership deficit has come into sharp relief following their leader’s ill-advised attempt to make political capital out of the coronavirus crisis.
Jackson Carlaw has come under intense pressure for making disparaging remarks about the Scottish National Party (SNP) and its quest for Scottish independence.
The Scottish Tory leader claimed it would now “look ridiculous” if the SNP “pushes for independence” at next year’s Holyrood (Scottish Parliament) election.
The SNP immediately hit back at Carlaw’s comments with a party spokesman describing it as “inappropriate”.
“The last thing any Scottish politician on any side of the constitutional debate should be doing is trying to use the appalling crisis we all currently face as an argument for or against independence”, the SNP spokesman added by referencing the coronavirus pandemic.
