Seasonal influenza: death toll rises to 35 in Multan

MULTAN: As many as three more patients succumbed to seasonal influenza on Thursday in Multan and raising the death toll from the disease to 35.

Dr Attaur Rehman, spokesman of Health department told private news channel that all the three deceased were residents of Khanewal and they were under treatment at Nishtar hospital Multan.

He added that the deceased were identified as 45-year-old Amir Furqan, 40-year-old Nasir and 50-years old Daulat Bibi.

Dr Rehman added that currently 12 patients are under treatment for influenza at Nishtar Hospital and adding that in the last six weeks, 242 cases have been reported and presence of H1N1 virus has been confirmed in 120 individuals.

Seasonal influenza can spread through contact with the bacteria discharged by an infected person’s coughing and sneezing. Pregnant women, senior citizens, and children are susceptible to the disease.
