Herat (ToloNews): For two months a second market for women with 50 shops has been open in Herat city. The shops in this market mostly sell handicrafts. Dozens of women are employed. “We are so happy that we can work out of our houses,” said Frozan Nawrozi, a shopkeeper in the market.
“There are lots of women who work from their homes,” said Sediqa Tasiki, a shopkeeper.
“We are so happy about working here where everyone is a woman,” said Marziya Mazhar, a shopkeeper.
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that the interest of women in commerce has increased in recent months.
According to the statistics of the organization, nearly 400 women in the past year have received business licenses in Herat province.
“It gives hope and motivation to women who work to expand their activities,” Said Bihnaz Saljoqi, deputy of the region’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Meanwhile, local officials of Herat said that they support businesswomen’s activities in the province.
“The local administration in this province supports women’s activities in the new women’s markets, women have a high position in Islam,” said Hamedullah Mutawakil, a spokesman for the governor of Herat.
