Second RMI Media Cricket League: Two more matches decided as United, Pukhtons win

PESHAWAR: Two more matches were decided in the RMI Media Cricket League on Thursday when PPC United and PPC Pukhtons won their respective matches.

The tournament has been organized by Peshawar Press Club for the journalists in collaboration with Rehman Medical Institute, Top Up mineral water, Director General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkwa and Traffic Wardon Police Peshawar at Hassan Khan Shaheed Government School No 1 Hashtnagri.

In the first match of the day PPC United hold their nerves to snatch the victory from PPC Eagles as United won the match by 12 runs. Batting first United scored 110 runs thanks half century by Imran Yousafzai. He scored unbeaten 54 runs. Asad was also among run getters as he scored 25 valuable runs.

In response Eagles scored 98 runs thus United winning the match by 12 runs. At one point it looked as if Eagles would win the match but PPC United bowlers bowled brilliant last four overs to give away just 20 runs. Imran Yousafzai was named Man of the Match. PPC United have now two points from as many matches and still have a chance to qualify for the quarter-final while Eagles are now out of the quarter-final race after second defeat in two matches.

In the second match of the day, PPC Pukhtons stun PPC Gladiators by eight wickets. Gladiators playing their second match in two days time looked favourite after they comprehensively defeated PPC Toryali in their first match of the tournament.

But defeat against PPC Qabails on Wednesday and now the defeat against Pukhtons can dent their chances of advancing to the next round. Gladiators opted to bat first after winning the toss and scored a fighting 105 runs in 10 overs. Asif was the top scorer with 34 runs while Aftab scored 32 runs. In response, Pukhtons easily chased the target after losing only two wickets. Shabbir Jan scored 32 runs while he was well supported by Naeem Babar who scored 29 runs. Shabbir was adjudged Man of the Match. Shehzada Kokab, SSP City, was the chief guest in the first match while in the second match DSP Traffic Razia Altaf was the chief guest. On Thursday (today) PPC Tigers will face PPC Azmari while in the second match PPC Kings will face PPC Eagles.
