Security guard killed as gunmen attack 5-star hotel in Gwadar

F.P. Report

QUETTA: There was neither any Chinese nor any other foreign national in a five-star hotel that came under attack by a group of armed men in the port city of Gwadar in Balochistan province, a provincial minister said late Saturday.

Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Lango told the media that most of the guests were evacuated from the Pearl Continental (PC) Hotel safely but several people were injured.

Meanwhile the military said that three terrorists attempted forced entry in hotel and a guard at entry challenged them.

“Terrorists opened fire on PC security guard who embraced Shahadat (martyrdom). Security forces have cordoned area,” an army statement said.

The statement said guests were safely evacuated and terrorists have been encircled by security forces in staircase leading to top floor. The army said a clearance operation is in progress.

Lango did not mention exact number of casualties and said the number of casualties will be known after the clearance operation is completed.

The minister said firing between the gunmen and the security forces are continued.

To a question Lango said there was no threat of attack in Gwadar but there was a threat of terrorism in Balochistan.

He said that at least three gunmen entered the hotel in the evening.
