GHAZNI CITY: Thirty-eight individuals, including a number of security personnel, have been released from a Taliban prison during an operation in the Aab Band district of Ghazni province, officials said on Monday.
Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and commandos raided the Taliban detention facility in the district on Sunday night, Mohammad Arif Noori, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok.
He said 38 people, most of them security forces, were freed during the overnight raid. At least, 10 militants were killed and five others, including a notorious commander, captured, the official added.
A Taliban arms depot, a car full of explosives, four motorbikes and some ammunition were also destroyed in the operation, the gubernatorial spokesman concluded.
On the other hand, Taliban rejected the government’s claim as baseless. The group’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said US and Afghan forces raided a Taliban prison in the district but faced strong resistance. He claimed inflicting causalities on more than 20 US and Afghan forces in the nighttime raid, he tweeted. (Pajhwok)
