Self-sufficiency needed in agriculture production: Qaiser

Islamabad: National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser on Wednesday said Pakistan is agriculture based economy which needs self-sufficiency in agriculture production.

He expressed these views during his meeting with delegation of members of parliament led by Rao Ajmal Khan, Chairman Standing Committee on National Food Security and Research, who called on him on Wednesday in the Parliament House.

 The speaker said, “Realizing the dream of Pakistan Agriculture development will not be possible without resolving the issues faced by farmers and protecting their interest”, he added.

He said that Legislation is the only way to resolve the issues faced by Farmers.

Asad Qaiser said that the economy of Pakistan has to bear the huge revenue on import of agriculture products every year which can be minimized by advancement in Agriculture field.

He said that agenda of agricultural development is national agenda and we all have to work for improvement of this sector beyond political affiliations.

Qaisar resolved his determination to make all out efforts for Pakistan development and it is his mission to enhance agriculture growth ignoring all other customs which may be obstacle in this way.

“There is a need of legislation purely for protecting the farmers’ interests and so that they can live their lives in prosperity as their income will increase because prosperous farmers will mean prosperous Pakistan”, he stressed.

He said that mass welfare campaigns would be organized to spread awareness and to seek the expert opinions of farmers, agriculture experts and other organizations related with Agriculture sector so that the dream of agriculture development can be materialized. Chairman Standing Committee on National Food Security and Research Rao Ajmal Khan while expressing gratitude to the Speaker for formulating a Special Committee on Agriculture products said this step is the real representative of farmer’s desires.

Ajmal Khan resolved to cooperate in all matters wholeheartedly as members of all political parties have been given representation in this committee.

He also said that all members would continue to work for protection of farmer’s interest and to enhance the growth of Agricultural development. Beside Rao Ajmal Khan MNAs, Zahoor Hussain Qureshi and Mr.Gohar Khan were also present in the meeting.
