Senate approves Election, NAB Ordinance amendment bills by majority

ISLAMABAD: After the National Assembly on Thursday passed the Elections (Amendment) Bill, 2022 – removing the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and effectively disallowing overseas Pakistanis from voting in the next general polls, Senate has approved Elections and NAB Ordinance Bills on Friday.

According to details, the Senate Session was chaired by chairman Sadiq Sanjrani in which elections amendment bill was presented by Murtaza Javed Abbasi and it was passed by a majority of votes.

Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar while addressing the session said that we are not stopping overseas to vote and will not be doing that in future. Election Commission of Pakistan will decide about the vote of overseas Pakistanis.

On the occasion, opposition parties protested against the bill while they surrounded the dice of chairman senate and tore the copies of the agenda.

Dr Shehzad Wasim said we will not allow anyone to steal the right of the vote of overseas Pakistanis. We will not let government to bulldoze the vote of 90 lakh people.
