Senate passes resolution condemning ban on JI in occupied Kashmir

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: The Senate on Wednesday unanimously passed a resolution condemning ban on Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) by the Indian government in occupied-Kashmir.

The resolution was moved by JI chief Siraj-ul-Haq.

According to the resolution, “the House strongly condemns the ban on JI in the occupied valley”. The party has been engaged in educational, social and political activities in the territory, hence a ban on it was sheer injustice.

The resolution urged the Federal Government of Pakistan to raise the issue of JI ban in held Kashmir at international forums.

A week ago, the Indian government had imposed a ban on the Jamaat-e-Islami in its occupied territory.

The Jamaat-e-Islami for the past several decades has been playing an important role in the ongoing freedom struggle in occupied Kashmir. Indian police and troops, in a massive crackdown, have arrested over 400 leaders and activists of the Jamaat in the last few days.

Former chief minister of Indian occupied Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, saying, “Democracy is a battle of ideas, crackdown followed by banning of Jammat Islami is condemnable, another example of high handedness and muscular approach of GOI [Government of India] to deal with political issue of J&k.”

She further wrote on Twitter and asked “why is GoI so uncomfortable with Jamaat e Islami?”

Radicalised Hindu groups, representing fringe elements, are given unlimited power to spread misinformation and vitiate the atmosphere. “But an organization that has worked tirelessly for Kashmiris is banned. Is being anti BJP anti national now?” Mufti sharply questioned.
