Senior Taliban leaders killed in Helmand operations

HELMAND: Senior leaderships of Taliban have been killed in a operation conducted by Afghan security forces in different parts of Helmand province of Afghanistan.

Governor, Hayatullah Hayat claimed that the senior Taliban leaders were killed including Qari Muhibullah, Mullah Basir, Mullah Zahir, Mullah Ahmad, Mahboob, Farid Janan, Mullah Mansoor, Mullah Esmat, and Mullah Ghani during the operation and adding that it will be continue till the elimination of last Taliban fighter from the area.

Surrender before the forces and join the peace process is the only option left for Taliban, Hayat added.

However, the Taliban group has not commented on the report so far.

Helmand is the most unstable province of Afghanistan after the fall of the Taliban government in 2001 and terrorist related incident are frequently reported from different parts of the Helmand province.

The Helmand officials claimed that last week Taliban fighters suffered heavy causalities during the operation against the anti government forces and adding that 25 Taliban fighters were killed and 11 others were injured during the operation.

The officials added that the operations are jointly being conducted by the Afghan army, Afghan police, and security personnel of the other institutions.
