SEPA collected Rs 80m from mineral water companies

F.P. Report

KARACHI: Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) collected Rs 80 million from mineral water companies and deposited the money in the national treasury.
On the orders of Provincial Secretary Environment Muhammad Aslam Ghauri and Director General SEPA Naeem Ahmad Mughal, Deputy Directors Kamran Rajput and Munir Abbasi ascertained the collectible amount after scrutinizing the records the referred companies. The Supreme Court of Pakistan, under Constitutional Petition No. 26/2018, has ordered to deposit the amount in the public treasury for extracting mineral water from the ground and preparing it for drinking and selling it.
For the first time in the history of Pakistan, such an order was issued by the Supreme Court, which was an important and complex matter for government agencies to implement and plan for the collection of money.
However, the senior management of SEPA assigned the responsibility of implementing the orders of the Supreme Court and collecting the money to the two experienced Deputy Directors who not only determined the amount with the day and night labor and assistance of subordinate staff but also collected Rs80 million from Nestle, Shezan, Mehran Beverages, Aquafina, Pepsi, Popular, Siz Water and Culligan.
