SEPA observing Environment Week on Golden Jubilee of WED

KARACHI: This year on Golden Jubilee of World Environment Day (WED), that is observed all over the world every year on 5th June since 1972, Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) is observing an Environment Week throughout the province of Sindh under which various awareness activities shall be organized.
Approving the action plan of Environment Week, DG SEPA Naeem Mughal said in a press statement that all concerned government departments, public sector organizations, district administrations, industrial & trade bodies and civil society organizations have been requested to observe this day in their jurisdiction to invite public attention towards significance of clean environment.
Under its Environment Week, SEPA is organizing a one-day training workshop on climate change for environmental journalists in collaboration with Green Media Initiatives at Karachi Press Club today on 1st June.
On Friday (3rd June) Vehicular Emission Awareness Campaign is being launched in collaboration with Traffic Police at twenty selected spots of all districts of Karachi. Staffers of SEPA and volunteers shall distribute awareness handbills among drivers and vehicle owners to convince them play their role for emission control.
On Saturday (4th June) an Awareness Walk and Tree Plantation is being organized from Clock Tower (Village) to Emaar Clifton at 6.00 p.m in collaboration with DHA in which people from various walks of life will join hands to promote green living.
On Sunday (5th June) a Cycle Rally is being arranged at 7.00 a.m (early morning) in collaboration with Pakistan Cyclists Association in two groups in which one group shall start cycling from Fayyaz Centre Opposite FTC building while second group of cyclists shall move from Sakhi Hassan Chowrangi and both of them will culminate at Mazar-e-Quaid. All participants shall pass by different roads of the city making people aware with public service messages on significance of zero emissions.
On same day i.e Sunday an Awareness Seminar is being arranged in collaboration with Farozaan Pakistan at Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi which will be followed by a Stage Drama on environmental pollution and a music concert by Auj band.
Besides, similar types of activities including seminars, tree plantations and walks are being organized in all main districts of the province.
