The secretary Power Division was briefing the committee chaired by Opposition Leader Shahbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Tuesday.
The secretary told the committee that 13 projects of 7240 megawatt under the CPEC were in the execution phase.
He said the circular debt in power sector had crossed 755 billion rupees.
On this occasion, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Peoples Party members of the committee criticized establishment of a coal power plant in Sahiwal.
Former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf questioned the rationale of setting up a coal power plant in an agriculture area like Sahiwal.
The federal secretary energy, who was present during the PAC meeting, informed the committee that an extremely sophisticated environment-friendly technology had been used for the plant. He claimed that the plant wouldn’t harm the ecology of the area.
