Seven Taliban killed in Kapisa province: Officials

KABUL: Ten Taliban fighters were killed and injured during military operation in Nijrab district in Kapisa province, officials said on Friday.

According to a press release issued by 201 Sailab military corps in east, Afghan joint forces conducted ground operation and airstrike against Taliban in various parts of Nijrab district over the past 24 hours.

Seven Taliban fighters were killed and three more injured in the offensive over the past 24 hours, the press release stated.

Search operation was in progress against Taliban in Nijrab district over the past few days, the press release said. The operation was aimed at creating peaceful environment for upcoming presidential election, the press release added.

The Afghan civilians and security forces did not suffer casualties in the offensive, the press release said.

Meanwhile, local Taliban officials told AIP that operation was conducted in Adezai area in Paas Nijrab.

Four Taliban fighters were killed and two more injured in the offensive, a local Taliban official figure told AIP. The security forces also suffered casualties in the gunfight, he said. He, however, added that he did not have accurate information in this regard.

Taliban have not said anything formally in this regard so far.

Airstrike of foreign forces leaves six Afghan cops injured: Six Afghan police personnel were injured as the foreign forces mistakenly targeted their checkpoint in an airstrike in Uruzgan province.

The foreign forces conducted bombardment on a police checkpoint during military operation against Taliban in Kotwalo area in Tarinkot city, Uruzgan security in-charge Sardar Muhammad told AIP.

Resultantly, he said six police personnel were wounded. They were rushed to the hospital.

The foreign forces deemed that the police personnel present at the checkpoint were Taliban fighters, he said.

Meanwhile, Dr Ziaur Rahman Niazi of Uruzgan provincial hospital told AIP that had received six injured police personnel from the site. Three of them were shifted to Kandahar owing to their critical condition, he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that military operation is in progress against Taliban in various parts of Tarinkot city. The foreign forces are providing air support to the Afghan troops.

Taliban and foreign forces have not said anything in this regard so far. (AIP)
