MAZAR-E-SHARIF: Taliban gunmen killed three local police and wounded another after an attack in the Chaharbolak district of Balkh province, police said Monday.
The Taliban fighters stormed an outpost of local police in the Aliabad village of Chaharbolak district, sparking several hours long gunfight, said Sher Jan Durrani, spokesman of Balkh police.
He told AIP that three local were killed and another wounded during the clash, adding there were also casualties to Taliban but they had no accurate count.
Informed sources, meanwhile, said eight police were killed in the clash. He rejected the impression that Taliban infiltrator at the post facilitated the Taliban attack.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told AIP that eight local police were killed and three more wounded in the attack.
He said the Taliban seized several weapons and other equipment, adding the clash also left a Taliban fighter dead and two others wounded.
Balkh is a comparative peaceful province in northern Afghanistan where Taliban occupation conduct attacks on Afghan forces.
