SHARJAH (Monitoring Desk): Although Shadab Khan played for Pakistan A and U19 team before making his Pakistan Super League debut, his life changed only after his maiden PSL stint with Islamabad United in 2017.
He took as many as nine wickets in the second edition of Pakistan Super League which helped him earn a call from Pakistan selectors.
And around two months after his remarkable performance in PSL, Shadab made his international debut against West Indies and earned man of the match award in his first game.
Since then, he has become a regular feature in Pakistan’s international games. And, Shadab – now 20, credits Pakistan Super League for changing his life.
“The standard of PSL is as high as it can be of an international event. This is a very good platform for youngsters to come and prove their worth. Although I had played for Pakistan A and U19 but the real change in my career came thru the Pakistan Super League,” he told media in Sharjah.
“PSL makes one a brave player. And cricket is all about brave players if you’re not brave enough, you can’t be good competitor,” Shadab said.
The young cricketer who now aims to be a proper all rounder for the team said that in PSL, players rub shoulders with international and senior players and that’s an invaluable experience for everyone, specially youngsters.
He was also confident of Islamabad United’s chances in the fourth edition of Pakistan Super League.
“Our start this year is not different from what it was in previous three seasons, I hope our end is also not different. We usually struggle in start of league but get the momentum towards end which helps us winning the title,” Shadab said.
“We have now gained the momentum and I’m very much hopeful of defending the title this season,” he aimed.
Replying to a question, Shadab said that this edition is a good opportunity to all World Cup aspirants to prepare for the mega event.
“This is a great preparation opportunity for me and others. I am trying to give my best here and to prepare myself for the World Cup where I want to be the player of the tournament,” Shadab said.
