ISLAMABAD: Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood, who has become a student favourite since the coronavirus pandemic for announcing the vacations in educational institutes, Saturday yet again brought another good news for the leisure-seeking students when he hinted at extending the winter vacations in educational institutes.

Shafqat said that if the same adverse weather persists the government may extend the winter vacation in schools.

Pakistan is currently in severe cold weather grip with weeklong rains hugely disturbing the daily life across the country.

There is a prediction of another weeklong rain spell from January 12 to January 17. The situation is more aggrieved in coastal areas and hill stations where floods and snowstorms have played havoc.

The current spell has also increased the chances of fog in the plains.

Earlier, the Punjab government also pondered to extend the winter vacation but later decided against it and announced to open the schools as announced previously.

However, now it is a strong possibility that the schools may remain shut for another week.
