ISLAMABAD: Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood on Monday dropped a hint about conducting online exams this year keeping in the situation resulting from the pandemic.
Students have been protesting across the country as part of their effort to convince the government to hold online exams this year and save their academic year.
However, the education minister said in a tweet on Monday that it was the universities that would make a decision on whether to conduct the final exams online or not. He said the education ministry has asked the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to contact the vice chancellors of public sector universities to assess the situation and see if online exams were possible this year.
He said that students of some universities were rallying in support of online exams on the pretext that they studied online and they should be allowed to sit online exams.
He said that universities needed to check if they had the required technical support to conduct the online exams of all students because the universities could not leave any student behind.
He said that universities would also have to ensure transparency in online examinations. He said it was equally important to put together a good question paper for the students.
