BAJAUR: Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Khan Afridi on Saturday visited Bajaur, where he was given a warm welcome. He announced Rs2 million in financial assistance for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and distributed school bags, books, and sports equipment among children.
Afridi expressed solidarity with the affected families, saying Bajaur’s people were facing difficult times but hoped the return of IDPs would begin soon. He noted the district’s sporting potential and pledged to build grounds and provide sports kits in collaboration with the local administration.
The former all-rounder said cricket and football leagues would be organized in Bajaur once the security situation improved.
Dismissing speculation about entering politics, Afridi said he had no political ambitions but would continue serving people.
During his visit, Afridi inspected a relief camp at Government Commerce College, met with displaced families, pledged a vocational center for women and girls, and inaugurated the BS Computer Science Department at the college.
Locals welcomed Afridi’s support, saying his visit had lifted the morale of affected families.
