F.P. Report

KARACHI: Former Information Minister and Provincial lawmaker of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sharjeel Memon challenged his arrest in an accountability court on Monday and said that his arrest was illegal as the arrest warrants were not issued on October 23, the day when he was taken in to custody.

Memon’s lawyer told the court that his client’s arrest was not ordered by the honorable court and the National Accountability Bureau has misdirected the judiciary on Memon’s arrest.

He requested from the court to immediately give its decision on his client’s petition against his arrest.

The PPP lawmaker was arrested by the NAB on October 23, after hours of being holed up in court premises and Sharjeel Memon was escorted from the court premises by Rangers and NAB personnel and was surrounded by his lawyers and other supporters..

Eleven other accused in the case were also arrested by the accountability bureau. The former information minister is expected to be produced before an accountability court on Tuesday.
