KARACHI: Minister of Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Sindh, Sharjeel Inam Memon, expressed his concerns during a press conference at Archive Complex Karachi.
He stated that a Sunday market has been organized for Imran Khan in the courts, where he is receiving both what he asks for and what he does not ask for. This situation has left people wondering whom they should demand justice from.
Sharjeel Inam Memon highlighted a recent court order that granted Imran Khan blanket bail, a unique decision that has raised concerns. He said that Imran Khan has been granted pardons for various serious offenses, including murder, constitutional violations, and plotting against the country’s integrity. This bail decision has left legal experts, members of society, and those knowledgeable about the constitution feeling ashamed.
Sharjeel Inam Memon further commented on the past experiences of political leaders and workers of PPP, stating that they never received justice from the courts. However, Imran Khan seems to be treated differently, with special arrangements made for him. Sharjeel Inam Memon criticized the court for decorating a “royal table” for Imran Khan while he makes threats from within the court.
Imran Khan’s statement implies that if he were to be arrested again, he would resort to damaging government property, setting fires, and disrupting institutions, businesses, and schools. Sharjeel Memon condemned this behavior, stating that one person should not hold the entire country hostage and disregard the law.
Sharjeel Inam Memon also mentioned a video from Imran Khan’s court appearance, where he claimed to be kidnapped and held hostage by the judges. He further expressed his dismay over Imran Khan receiving blanket approval to avoid arrest in any case.
Sharjeel Inam Memon criticized Khan’s immediate return home after obtaining bail instead of showing solidarity with his imprisoned workers and leaders. He said that the actions of the workers causing havoc are in consequential. Sharjeel Inam Memon accused Imran Khan of exploiting and misleading the youth, using women and children as shields on multiple occasions. He said that Imran Khan mobilizes the mothers and sisters of the nation to protest on the streets while keeping his own family in air-conditioned rooms.
According to Sharjeel Inam Memon, Imran Khan poses a threat to the entire nation and attempts to gain power by leveraging the court system. He said that Imran Khan is blackmailing institutional leaders to further his agenda.Sharjeel Inam Memon mentioned an interview in which Imran Khan allegedly targeted the head of a institution, tarnishing the image of the chief of the Pakistan Army. Sharjeel Inam Memon denounced Khan as a liar and hypocrite, claiming that he is attempting to defame and blackmail institutional heads.
He said that although Imran Khan may wish to defame the head of the institution like the former chief, such actions will not occur in the country. He criticized Imran Khan for damaging the country’s economy both during his time in power and after ousting from power and said due to the chaos caused by Imran Khan, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is reluctant to assist Pakistan.
Sharjeel Inam Memon said that Imran Khan is lobbying in hostile countries of Pakistan, spreading false information about serious human rights violations in the country. He said that Imran Khan, along with Israel and India, established a social media network several years ago. Sharjeel Inam Memon said that Imran Khan of being driven by a hunger for power and he should explain the alleged robbery associated with the Al-Qadir Trust. He also called on Imran Khan to disclose his income sources and methods of deception.
The minister expressed his concern about Khan’s personal life, questioning why Khan has not publicly disclosed the number of children he has. Sharjeel Inam Memon argued that if Khan cannot ensure justice within his own family, how can he be trusted to govern the entire population of 220 million people?Sharjeel Inam Memon showed a video to the media representatives, in which an Indian journalist allegedly praised Khan for achieving what India couldn’t achieve in many years.
He said that there are even reports of the PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) receiving funding from India in the UK. Sharjeel Inam Memon said that these claims are made to create polarization and division within the country.He said that the events of the past two to four days were not solely the result of Imran Khan’s actions, there are other forces at play and that the true motives and the way institutions are being utilized will become clearer.
He warned that if granting such blanket relief to Khan becomes a precedent, then others may also demand similar treatment. Sharjeel Inam Memon criticized the situation as the worst example in the history of Pakistan, where those who benefit the country are punished while no action is taken against others.
Sharjeel Inam Memon expressed his disappointment with the moral values of certain individuals, stating that based on the recent press conference, he has lost faith in the Chief Justice. He cited an incident where an accused judge greeted him, questioning the appropriateness of such encounters.Memon acknowledged that the current state of the country is crucial, comparing it to a mother. He recognized the past grievances people had with institutions but commended the patience displayed by the institutions in the face of self-defense options.
Responding to a question, Memon called for an investigation into anyone associated with the Al-Qadir Trust. He criticized the act of selling watches, deeming it the work of pickpockets. He specifically accused Imran Khan, referring to him as the biggest pickpocket for selling a watch featuring the picture of the Kaaba, claiming that only a thief could do such a thing.Memon stated that the Pakistan Peoples Party has supported Monday’s protest and assured that their protest will be conducted peacefully.
He acknowledged the restraint and patience shown by all the country’s institutions in abiding by the constitution. However, he criticized Imran Khan for receiving relief even in the corruption case of the BRT.
Sharjeel Inam Memon called for those responsible for setting vehicles on fire to come forward and face the charges instead of hiding. He expressed concern about an institution supporting an individual beyond what is expected, stating that this situation will persist until the demands of justice are met. Sharjeel Inam Memon cautioned against prioritizing personal preferences over the well-being of the country.
