LONDON (Agencies): India’s left-handed opening batsman, Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the World Cup 2019 for the next three weeks due to a fractured thumb.
Dhawan was hit by Australian pacer on his left thumb, Nathan Coulter-Nile, in a game played on Sunday, the opening batsman carried on batting after receiving first aid and went on to score a marvelous ton which inspired his side to an important victory. He also received the Man of the Match award for his performance.
However, he did not come out to field and was seen icing his swollen thumb, later, on Tuesday, he undergone a precautionary scan and it was found out that he has suffered a fracture.
Dhawan has been a phenomenal performer for India in ICC events scoring at a staggering average of 65.15, while maintaining an average of 53.70 in World Cups only. India have to face New Zealand on Thursday and the arch-rivals Pakistan in a much-anticipated game on Sunday.
