MUMBAI: Sidharth Malhotra, who was launched by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions’ Student Of The Year, is evolving as an actor. While he did Kapoor & Sons with Dharma, he’s also been doing films outside the banner. His super hit Ek Villain was a Balaji Productions’ project. Baar Baar Dekho was a joint project between Excel Entertainment and Dharma Productions. While Hasee Toh Phasee was a collaboration between Dharma and Phantom Films.
“I was searching for a script like Jabariya Jodi. It just didn’t happen by chance. I happened to meet Shaileshji (Singh, producer) six months ago. He has made beautiful and small-town films like Tanu Weds Manu. He shared the script of Jabariya Jodi. Our energies just matched,” he says. “After a couple of months, I called up Ekta (Kapoor) and said, ‘I’ve got this great script and I believe Balaji Productions would be the right producer for it’. And here we are in Lucknow making this film,” he smiles.
Jabariya Jodi is directed by debutant Prashant Singh and pairs the handsome Sidharth with livewire Parineeti Chopra once again after Hasee Toh Phasee. The rom-com, set in Bihar, has a rustic flavour and revolves around the ‘groom kidnapping’ syndrome, albeit with humour.
