Sikh leader and social worker Charanjit Singh laid to rest
PESHAWAR: The funeral player of sikh traders and social workers Charanjit Singh was held today Wednesday at Peshawar where he was taken to Attock Nowshera for cremation.
Charanjit Singh was killed by unknown gunmen when he was coming from his shop to home on Inqilab Road Peshawar on 29 May,2018.
The gunmen managed to flee after the attack, as the killing of the sikh leader was not claim responsibility of any group until now.
Sikh elder Baba Amarjit Singh said Charanjit, 52, was a social worker who actively worked to improve interfaith relations.
He was also described as a vocal supporter of the Pakistani military’s efforts to crack down on Islamic extremists, adding that the deceased was an active member and working for the welfare of the minority community in Peshawar.
Hindu leader Haroon Sarabdayal said he believed the attack against Charanjit was a targeted killing “since he did not have a feud with anyone.”
He added that after the target killing of the top sikh leader in Peshawar not only the Sikh community but all other minority feeling insecure, adding and demanding that the government should take concrete steps to improve the security.
It merit mention here that around 60,000 sikh community living in KP in which around 15,000 residing in Peshawar.
