Siraj questions police performance in Asma case

LAKKI MARWAT: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police will face criticism and people will question its exemplary performance until and unless the prime suspects involved in killing Asma Rani in Kohat and parading naked Sharifan Bibi in DI Khan are arrested.

This was stated by Jamat-e-Islami chief Senator Sirajul Haq while talking to media persons in Naurang town. The JI chief went to the residence of slain medical student and extended condolence and sympathies with her father Ghulam Dastagir and other relatives. The provincial Ameer Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, district naib ameer Haji Azizullah Khan and other leaders also accompanied him.

Asma Rani, a third year medical student in Ayub Medical College Abbotabad was killed in Kohat on Jan 28 on refusing a marriage proposal. She belonged to Naurang town of Lakki Marwat district and her brutal killing had sparked protests in the district. The JI chief said that to educate females in Pakhtun society was the matter of pride but on the other side happening of incidents like Asma Rani killing were heart rendering. He said that despite poverty the parents sent Asma Rani to Ayub Medical College Abbotabad and another daughter abroad on scholarship for PhD education.

He termed fleeing of female student’s killer from country a failure on part of government and called for taking measures to bring back him from Saudi Arabia through Interpol. He expressed concern over surge in rape and murder incidents of women and children in the country and asked the government to take special steps to overcome such gory incidents. He extended all out support to the grand Marwat jirga constituted after the killing of Asma Rani and urged the government to take practical and visible steps for the arrest of prime killer. “The arrest of killer will give a sense of security and protection to the students studying in medical colleges and other educational institutions”, he added, saying that Jamat-e-Islami stands by victim families and will raise voice against such gruesome incidents on all forums.
