Six security men injured in suicide bombing

LASHKARGAH: At least four Afghan National Army (ANA) troops and two cops were injured in a suicide attack in the Nad Ali district of Helmand province, officials said Saturday.

“The security forces had identified the bomber and opened fire on his explosive packed car when he failed to stop on their signals. As a result, the explosives in the car detonated,” said Omar Zwak, spokesman of Helmand governor. He said four ANA troops and two police were wounded in the incident occurred near the Qari Post in Group Shash area of Nad Ali district at approximately 11:00 a.m. (local time).

Sources, meanwhile, said the suicide bomber targeted the Qari Post followed by gun attacks on several other posts in the same area. Besides injuries to six security men, a civilian ridding on a motorcycle was killed in the suicide explosion.

Taliban Spokesman Qari Muhammad Yousaf Ahmadi asserted responsibility for the attack, saying a key base of Afghan forces near the Qari Post was targeted in the attack.

He said a large number of troops were killed and wounded and several vehicles destroyed. Yesterday, a suicide car bomb attack targeted police petrol in Kandahar city, killing four people including two police and wounding 10 others.
