Presiding over 14th meeting of Board of Directors of Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA), Chief Minister Mahmood Khan urged for enhancing the standard of technical education. The Authority is a static white elephant and has done nothing for the improvement of technical education and vocational training over the past few years. The delinking of institutions of technical education and vocational training from the Board of Technical Education was entirely politically motivated to benefit the vested interest group. The decline in the standard of technical education over the past four years amply confirms it.
There is a shortage of 150,000 skilled workers for the existing industry in the province which operates on second generation technology. The Chinese industries which are going to be relocated in Rashakai special economic zone would need highly skilled manpower, competent enough to handle production lines being run on fifth generation technologies. Does the management of TEVTA have the will and acumen to implement strategy for bridging the technological gap by strengthening and modernizing the technical infrastructure of institutions of technical education and vocational training? Is there any plan in place to upgrade and modernize these institutions?
