SKMCH&RC gave ‘Medal of Hope’ to its donors

LAHORE: Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (SKMCH&RC) hosted a gala dinner to honor the support of its donors and well-wishers throughout the journey of successful 25 years of serving humanity.  A large number of individuals and representatives of corporate institutions received ‘Medal of Hope’ from Dr. Faisal Sultan, CEO of the Hospital and Dr. Muhammad Aasim Yusuf, CMO SKMCH&RC, in recognition of their unconditional support to the cause which is now become of symbol of hope for thousands of cancer patients in the country.

At the event Dr. Faisal Sultan gave a detailed overview to the donors about Hospital’s contribution in treating cancer patients and promoting research and training culture in the field of cancer treatment in Pakistan. He said that “over the past 25 years, our Hospitals in Lahore and Peshawar have recorded over two million outpatient visits, and we have provided over 1.6 million therapeutic sessions of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery. With the generous contribution of donors we have continued to provide world-class treatment to all our patients, 75% of whom received financially-supported treatment. ” “The hospital has spent over Rs.39 billion on financially supported cancer treatment.” He added.

“Our focus has always been to maintain the highest standards of patient care. SKMCH&RC, Lahore became the first charitable hospital in Pakistan to earn the Gold Seal of Approval® by the Joint Commission International (JCI), and today both our hospitals, in Lahore and Peshawar, are accredited by the JCI, having received this prestigious award after demonstrating continuous compliance with JCI’s internationally recognized standards.” Dr. Faisal told the audience. 

Talking about the current and upcoming expansion projects, he informed that phase-III of the SKMCH&RC, Peshawar will be completed in year 2020 after which surgical services will be commenced at the facility. Besides, construction of a Clinical Tower will also be started in SKMCH&RC, Lahore in coming year, and it would be the largest expansion project ever since the Hospital’s inception, which will double the capacity of the existing facility. Moreover, commencement of work on the third, and biggest so far, SKMCH&RC in Karachi is also planned in 2020.

Donors of the hospital at the event pledged to continue their support to the hospital in future as well.
