Slain doctor buried in Baghlan, justice sought

KABUL (Tolo News): The remains of Dr. Khalil-ur-Rahman Narmgo, head of the surgery ward of Baghlan-e-Markazi district hospital, who was assassinated in an attack in Baghlan by unidentified armed men, was laid to rest in his hometown. Narmgo’s loved ones and colleagues said that he served as doctor for four decades besides his media and civil activities.
They said that Narmgo was even travelled in areas under the control of the Taliban to treat the people. Nargmo’s family meanwhile called on the Afghan government to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice. “He served this nation for forty years and never left his country and devoted himself to serve the people. He was travelling to other provinces where there were no doctors,” said Baktash, the son of Narmgo.
“We don’t know who is really doing this? The Taliban or the government—we call on the government to arrest the killers,” said Arash Doshiwal, a relative of Narmgo. “All his works and services must be remembered in history,” said a journalist in Baghlan, Habib Rahman.
Narmgo’s colleagues said that there are serious questions behind his murder which need to be answered. “We appeal to the security and intelligence agencies in Baghlan to launch a serious investigation into the incident,” said Mohammad Akbar Barakzai, the governor of Baghlan. “He served the people of Baghaln through his expertise without any discrimination,” said Abdul Azim Ghafari, the deputy head of the Baghlan health department. The Taliban have denied any involvement in the murder. Targeted killings have hit Afghan civilians hard over the past few months. The UN figure indicates that up to 1200 Afghans were killed in targeted killings in 2020.
42 Taliban killed in Kandahar: The Ministry of Defense stated that 42 Taliban fighters were killed in the Mianshin, Panjwai, and Arghandab districts of Kandahar province. MoD in a released statement said Afghan national defense and security forces backed by air support launched an operation in three districts of southern Kandahar province.
During the clashes 42 Taliban were killed, 8 wounded also the group’s stronghold, four motorbikes, and some of their weapons and ammunition were wrecked in the operations.
