Slow pace of clearance suffers business activities at Torkham

LANDI KOTAL: Unhurried examination process at Torkham border in the name of security suffered trade activities besides added miseries of transporters.

Addressing to a press conference in Landi Kotal press club district Khyber President Clearance Agents Association, Torkham Aimal Khan Shinwari said that custom, police and other departments cleared the export and transit loaded vehicles speedily however, the border force at the name of security, examined the trucks in slow pace that only suffered trade at Torkham crossing but also caused traffic mess in the Khyber.

 Flanked by his cabinet members Shah Jehan, Gulab Shinwari, Umar Shinwari and Amer Shinwari, Aimal Khan said that because of the slow examination procedure only 150 to 200 trucks cleared daily as compared to 600 to 700 previously.

Kilometers long queues of Kabul bound vehicles can be witnessed at Pak-Afghan highway multiplying the problem of locals and travelers, he added and said the irresponsible attitude of the officials in Torkham causes a threat to commodities of transit trade.      

If the clearance and examination process of export and import in Torkham was not expedited then they would have no other option but jointly with the transport community to take to the roads for agitation.

The clearance agents demanded the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Chief Minister, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Corp Commander Peshawar and Inspector General Frontier Corp to direct the concerned authorities for speedy procedure of clearance at Torkham crossing to reduce rush of trucks at roads of district Khyber.
