Slow work progress on BRT a headache for Saddar traders

PESHAWAR: Traders Association of Saddar Bazaar demanded to speed up the work on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project as the slow pace of work has badly affected the business activities in the area.

Information Secretary of Traders Association of Saddar Bazaar, Javed Khan said that the buyers were opting to stay away from the business activities in Sadar area due to the dust caused because of the construction work and also they did not want to come to Saddar to avoid being stuck into hours long traffic jam which has been a routine in Saddar area.

He complained that the construction work of BRT was too slow in the Saddar area and almost all the main roads were chocked with the traffic at snail’s pace since the work of the mega project began.

“We realized that the BRT is a huge project for Peshawar city and it will bring solution to the traffic problems in the provincial capital, however, the slow work progress is a headache for the people of the area especially traders,” Javed added.

Rahmanullah, a shopkeeper of Saddar bazaar talking to The Frontier Post that since the inauguration of, the business was on decline and now the traders were facing severe problems as they had to face problem of low sale as well as extra cost of cleaning the dust created by the construction of BRT project.

Moreover, Ashrafullah a vegetable seller said that he daily pray for early completion of BRT project because due to the project he was not able earn properly for his family.

The traders demanded the government to speed up the construction work on the project and also take steps for minimizing the dust and pollution problems which was surfaced because of construction work in the area.
