Snowfall forecast for several upper areas

ISLAMABAD: Continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country and a new system of westerly winds —causing heavy rains and strong winds and light hail — will start affecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from today’s evening or night, a day after heavy hailstorm battered many areas of Azad Kashmir, on Tuesday.

Azad Kashmir’s Neelum Valley received snowfall on Tuesday, causing landslide in many areas which resulted in blocking roads.

The hails from Monday’s storm were quite big in size, big enough to smash through windscreens of several cars, besides causing other material damage.

Meteorological Department said strong thunderstorms in some areas of Mianwali Khushab with thunders and light rain expected on Tuesday. Meteorological Department said that Thal desert farmers should not start the process of drilling grams yet.

Weather office forecasted light hailing in Swat, Malakand, Buner, Shangla, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Garm Chashma, Havelian, Malam Jabba, Swabi, Mardan, Peshawar, Kohat, Kohistan, Haripur, Karam, Gilgit, Chilas, Skardu, Muzaffarabad, and Kashmir.

Light snow is also expected in the high mountains that will turn the weather be cold but after few days the weather will return to normal.

Pakistan weather office predicted mainly dry weather is expected in most parts of the country. However, rain wind-thunderstorm (snowfall over high mountains) may occur at isolated places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and its adjoining areas.

In the last 24 hours, the weather remained dry in most parts of the country, however, rain-wind-thundershower occurred in Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
