Soft opening of BRT project on March 23: Tarakai

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Local Governments and Rural Development (LG&RD), Shahram Khan Tarakzai has said that the soft opening of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project will be carried out on March 23, 2019 in any cost.

He expressed these views during a detailed visit to the project here Tuesday. He inspected the ongoing work on the complete route and bus stations of BRT from Chamkani to Karkhano Market. He was also accompanied by Secretary Local Governments, Zahir Shah, Director General (DG) Peshawar Development Authority (PDA), Israrul Haq, consultants, contractors and other authorities.

The provincial minister was briefed on different reaches of the project and progress on going work.

Speaking on the occasion, the provincial minister clarified on authorities that no suspension of work would be tolerated and directed the speedy continuation of work to complete it within the stipulated time period.

Later, talking to media, Shahram Khan Tarakai rejected the media reports regarding increase in the budget and cost of the project as baseless and no fund is being obtained from any country or financial institution in this regard. He said that the project would be completed from the sanctioned fund.

He said that buses for the project had reached the city and more buses will arrive in different phases. He said that the government is fully aware of the problems faced by the people and is  serious in their resolution.
