Speakers praise Hamish Khalil’s literary services

PESHAWAR: Poets and writers gathered here on Sunday at Pakhtun Cultural Museum Hall to shower accolades of praise on senior poet, writer and an authority on Pashto classical literature, Hamish Khalil.

Poets, writers, intellectuals from different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Hazara division attended the event.

Pashto Academy Senior Hazara presented cash award Rs 10,000 and commendation shield tiled Mohsin-i-Pashto (Pashto mentor) to Hamish Khalil. Pashto mushaira was held in which around 20 poets paid poetic tribute to the senior writer. Kalsoomzeb, noted poet and chief of the Khwendy Adabi Lakhkar (KHAL), Haseena Gul Tanha, Prof Zubair Hasrat, Saidul Amin Kheshgi and Iqbal Hussain Afkar were also among the participants.

Prof Nasrullah Jan Wazir, Director Pashto Academy, Idrees Asar poet and Director National Police, Islamabad and Ismail Gohar, Chairman Pakhto Academy Hazara were the guests of honour.

Pashto Academy Hazara in collaboration with Pashto Academy, University of Peshawar organized an event to honour noted writer and scholar Hamish Khalil for his huge contributions to Pashto language and literature.  Speakers shed light on various aspects of life and literary services of the living literary giant for the last more than over six decades.

Reading  out   paper , Prof Hanif Khalil said that Hamish Khalil has contributed immensely to Pashto literature adding that he could be rightly placed on the top list of pioneers of   research   on scientific lines especially on Pashto classical text and also Pashto fiction, poetry and prose .

“Hamish Khalil being a voluminous writer has researched, edited, compiled and published about 80 books and left no stone unturned in serving his mother tongue, he deserves a life time achievement award and a honourary PhD degree,” he said.  

Ismail Gohar on the occasion that he along with his colleagues had set up Pashto Academy Hazara in 1994 to encourage poets and writers in Hazara division, bring out books and conduct research on Pashto language and literature  while honouring literati  for their contributions was also among the main objectives of his organization.

Prof Zubair Hasrat in his paper said that Hamish Khalil despite being nonagenarian was still remained busy in research pursuits.

Hamish Khalil at the end thanked the participants and said that the motivation behind his work was service of his own land and people and also to build an identity of hard work, truth and devotion.

Akhtar Hayat Qamar, Abdul Wadood Ashanghari, Prof Khakil- Ur- Rahman, Amjad Ali Khadim and Prof Nasrullah Jan Wazir also spoke at the event.
