Spreading of awareness to end child abuse stressed

CHARSADDA: In order to protect the minors from the sexual abuse an awareness session was organized at Government Primary School No-2 Rajjar area of Charsadda on Saturday. The awareness session was organized by Jwandoon Foundation. The session was organized with the aim to spread awareness and protecting the children from molestation.

On the occasion, Social worker, Shaban Arzoo, emphasized that minors should be careful when someone touch whether it maybe family line members or unfamiliar feel you on genital organs, you must share with yours parents. She stressed that that parents and teachers to be attentive towards the protection and development of a child’s personality.

“Children become more vocal and are share their problems both with teachers and parents and if it is not possible then they have approached them on another’s behalf who are the most trustworthy”, Shabana stressed.

Bakht Zaman Yousafzai, An Assistant Professor of UoP, said on the occasion that the educational institutions are the initial line of defense in helping to identify and help victims, and praised the role of civil society and their contribution to this. He said this is a collaborative effort and a partnership with public and schools is inevitable.

“The children are more vulnerable because the majority of children are abused by close relatives. The perpetrators may have been abused themselves in the past, so the parents should be aware,” he explained. “Teachers need to be trained by experts on how to deal with this issue, and form for a central policy to introduce such subjects in the curriculum”, he demanded.

The protection of children from sexual abuse sparked the debate after the Zainab and Asma rape and murder cases. It is worth to be mention according to Pakistan Penal Code, sexual assault, pornography and mental and psychological abuse is punishable acts under The Sections 292 A, 292 B and 292 C, 328 A, 369 A, 377 A and 377 B have incorporated, which will be punishable by seven years in prison and a fine of Rs0.7 million.
