Sri Lanka players refuse to visit Pakistan for final T20I

LAHORE (Monitoring Desk): The Sri Lankan cricket team has indicated strong reluctance to visit Pakistan for the third and final T20I scheduled to be held on October 29 at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

According to reports, forty contracted players of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have handed a letter to the board indicating that they do not wish to travel to Lahore for the last T20I against Pakistan.

The letter, signed by the entire current squad and contracted players back home, has requested the board to consider a venue change.

“SLC will have a quick chat to the players very soon. We don’t intend to disturb them in middle of a series, but we are left with no option but to address the issue. The ICC also will meet the players on Saturday to brief them about the situation in Lahore,” Cricbuzz reported, citing an SLC source.

Earlier following the conclusion of ICC board meeting in Auckland, New Zealand, SLC had told PCB it was ready to send its team to Lahore for the third and final T20 on October 29, as scheduled, according to sources.

The Gaddafi Stadium successfully hosted the Independence Cup and PSL final earlier this year, marking the return of international cricket to the country following the 2009 attack on Sri Lanka team.
