Stalemate persists as PkAMP, JUI oppose FATA merger with KPK

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: In another attempt to stall merger of Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mahmood Achakzai and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Fazal-ur-Rehman on Thursday once again opposed the way FATA was planned to be merged with KPK.

As per details garnered, the second session on FATA reforms bill—held at Prime Minister’s Chamber in National Assembly with Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in the chair—ended in stalemate as Achakzai and Rehman stood firm on their previous stance.

On the other hand, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), Awami National Party (ANP) and National Party (NP) put their weight behind premier for merging FATA with KPK.

Owing to stern resistance by nationalists’ leaders, PM Abbasi had decided to take the matter before Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s (PML-N) Central Executive Committee.
