Suicide bombing targeted NDS office in Helmand leaves 1 dead

LASHKARGAH: A suicide attack targeting the office of Afghan spy in Lashkargah, capital of Helmand province, killed at least one security man and wounded seven others, eyewitnesses said Saturday.

The suicide bomber ridding a vehicle attacked the office of National Directorate of Security (NDS) in the limits of 2nd police station, eyewitnesses told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP). They said the suicide bomber detonated his explosive packed vehicle after crossing the first checkpoint at the NDS sub-office.

Preliminary information suggests a security man was killed and a soldier among seven others wounded in the attack. The offices of Sabawon and Bakhtar televisions and Helmand University located near the site of the incident also suffered damage of property.

There was no word by local authorities in this regard. Taliban spokesman Qari Muhammad Yousaf Ahmadi claimed the attack. The suicide attack was carried out by a Taliban bomber targeting an NDS base in the Kart-e-Lagan area, killing and wounding a large number of NDS workers and security men, he told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP). It was the second suicide attack on NDS offices in Afghanistan as the first attack targeted the NDS office in Kabul this morning.
