Supreme Court dismisses NAB’s plea to reopen Hudaibiya Paper Mills case

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan rejected a plea filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to reopen Hudaibiya Paper Mills case against Sharif family on Friday. .

A three-member bench of Supreme Court has unanimously rejected the petition of the NAB and three-member bench, comprising Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Justice Masheer Alam and Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel.

Justice Masheer Alam read out the short order on Friday and rejected the NAB’s plea to reopen the case.

NAB had filed plea against the decision of the Lahore High Court, which had canceled the case in 2014. The case Hudaibiya case had been initiated by NAB in 2000 and it involved money laundering charges against Sharif family.

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, his son Hamza Shahbaz and others had been made accused in the case.

Earlier, on 28 July, the Supreme Court while announcing the Panama case decision directed the NAB to reopen the Hudaibya case against the Sharif family.

The Hudaibiya Paper Mills was allegedly used as a cover up by the Sharif family to launder money outside the country in the 1990s through Ishaq Dar.
