Supreme Court rejects LHC order for stopping work on Orange Line Metro Train

LAHORE: The Supreme Court of Pakistan rejected the Lahore High Court (LHC) decision for stopping the work on some selected sites of the Orange Live Metro Train on Friday.

The apex court accepted the appeal of the Punjab government and others against the LHC decision with conditions. The bench given the decision with the ruled by a 4-1 judgment and the court that no illegalities in the multi-billion rupee project.

The Supreme Court five-member bench which was headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan had reserved its verdict in the case on April 17 this year.

Though the Supreme Court has allowed the Punjab government to complete the project but the SC applied 31 conditions to ensure the project transparency and also ordered to form a five-member technical committee, with overarching authority, for a year.

CM Punjab Shahbaz Sharif welcomed the decision and said that the project will bring development and prosperities in the province.
