Supreme Court rejects Sharjeel Memon’s bail petition

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court rejected the bail petition of former information minister Sharjeel Memon and others allegedly involved in a Rs5.76 billion advertisement scam.

Justice Asif Saeed Khosa headed three member bench resumed hearing on the petitions filed by the accused. The Supreme Court allowed the accused to withdraw their bail requests and directed them that they may apply for bail in the high court on fresh grounds.

Supreme Court is hearing a mega corruption case of awarding advertisements to electronic media concerning the Sindh government’s public awareness campaigns. Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Memon, Inam Akbar, Muhammad Yousuf Kabooro, Asim Hameed Khan Sikandar, Basharat Mirza and Iqbal Z Ahmed were among the accused in the corruption case.

The case has been filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
